There’s nothing better than having a warm shrug to wear in winter. They are wardrobe staples and are so easy and quick to make. Plus, they make fabulous layering pieces that are light to pack when traveling. For a little extra warmth, I decided to add a long-sleeve version, but you could easily make two: one for winter, and a short-sleeve version for spring/autumn!
Pattern Notes
Florence is very easy to knit. It’s basically one large rectangle that is folded and sewn into a shrug. There are two options: one with sleeves, and one without. It’s such a simple pattern that I’m sure you will be making lots of them!
This design is knit using two strands of ACM held together. ACM is a very fluffy yarn and, when held together, knits up to a DK/worsted weight gauge. You could knit this sweater using two strands of fingering weight yarn, or even one strand of a heavy DK/worsted weight yarn; just make sure you get gauge!
The yardage given is for knitting a marled version of the shrug, which means knitting with a strand of two different colors. For this, you will need exactly half the amount per colour (e.g. for the long-sleeve version, I used 2 skeins of Papaya and 2 skeins of Olive - 4 skeins total for size 2). If you are holding fingering-weight yarn together and are using only one colour, or you wish to use a heavy DK/worsted-weight yarn, see the ‘estimated total grams required’ section to work out how many grams of yarn you will need for your project.
You could easily make your own modifications by adding stripes or colourblocks. Or, you could make a scrappy version using left over fingering or DK-weight yarns. The sky is the limit!
